AVID Program

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program for students in grades six through twelve designed to prepare students in the academic middle for admission to four-year colleges and universities. Students take an AVID elective course throughout middle and high school that equips them with the skills needed to succeed academically, with the ultimate goal of attending college. For more than 30 years, AVID has been instrumental in preparing students for higher education success.

The core component of AVID is the elective course, which supports students as they challenge themselves with rigorous classes. Students learn study skills, note-taking, time management, writing, and research skills while being immersed in a college-going culture. Tutoring sessions led by college students provide additional support, and the class also offers access to college information through field trips, guest speakers, scholarship opportunities, and guidance on college admission requirements.

If you are interested in enrolling in the AVID elective, please talk to your teacher for the application and deadlines. Student applications for the following year become available in the spring.
